Meet Maya

Maya Siklai is E-RYT 500 Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher, a mother, and a lifetime student of yoga, Ayurveda, dance, music and art. Maya took her first yoga class as a teenager, and has now been teaching yoga for over 15 years. Her intention has always been to empower people to learn safe and effective yoga practices and integrate them into their lives so that eventually they don’t need a teacher, other than themselves. “When I teach yoga, I seek to both honor the roots of yoga by integrating philosophy and spirituality, and to teach the practical physical, mental and emotional techniques that yield immediate results.”

Maya finds it most fulfilling to work one-on-one with private clients and to lead Yoga Teacher Training programs which she has done annually for the past 12 years. Both allow her to work closely with the same people over time to develop a deeper understanding of yoga beyond the physical poses. Maya also loves to teach her monthly classes, workshops, online group courses, as well as lead annual Yoga Retreats to the Caribbean coast of Colombia.

Aside from enjoying time with her beautiful family, Maya loves to read books, study yoga & Ayurveda, travel, swim in the ocean, cook, sing, dance, garden and create!

Testimonials

  • “Maya, your classes are wonderful, I feel really well taken care of. Thank you for giving us individualized attention and offering adjustments to fit everyone’s specific situation. You bring a lovely spiritual side to your practice, and at the same time you explain the anatomy behind certain movements and how they can help us in our daily life. I love that combination!”

  • My body and I love the yoga essential course from Maya. Each class flows beautifully and is beneficial to what my body needs. Maya has a calming voice and is always helpful if I need assistance. Namaste!

  • [These lessons have] helped my sore knees and joints. Now I can bend my right knee deeply where I couldn’t before. I always feel better both physically and mentally after Maya’s classes. This is a perfect intro to yoga.”

  • I just wanted to thank you again for allowing me to feel my emotions as they surfaced during class on Saturday. It was completely unexpected and it was hard to pin point exactly what had caused it. I realize now that it was a myriad of things, some of which I didn't realize I was still holding on to…I felt seen and supported and it was what I needed at that moment. I appreciate you checking in with me at the end of class. I knew this class would have its challenges and that I would grow into a better me, but I had no idea to what depth. Yoga is DEEP! I have chosen this journey and I am grateful you are there with me.

Maya says,

“From the very beginning, my choice to teach yoga was a call to service born of a deep, lifelong love of teaching and to helping others. Yoga, for me, has been a path of constant, often challenging, always uplifting, study and growth. Although I had no religious upbringing or spiritual initiation, I recognized from the start the sacred responsibility that comes with leading someone in a yoga practice, guiding them into themselves by sharing the tools that have so often stimulated my own personal expansion on all levels.  When I teach yoga, I seek to both honor the roots of yoga by integrating philosophy and spirituality, as well as to teach the physical, mental and emotional practices that yield immediate results.  As a yoga teacher, my intention has always been to empower people to learn safe and effective yoga practices and integrate them into their lives so that eventually they don’t need a teacher, other than themselves.”
